Listening Therapy

how we can help

Listening Therapy

Listening Therapy (LT) is used when appropriate to “re-train” parts of the brain involved in learning, communicating, and moving. Combining an auditory program with specific visual and balance activities, LT strengthens neurological pathways and improves a child’s ability to learn and to process information.

Like occupational therapy, LT is based on the theory of neuroplasticity, which refers to brain changes that occur as a result of experience.

One such LT program is Integrated Listening Systems (iLs), which is used in combination with Occupational Therapy treatment at SMART Pediatric Therapy. The music is delivered via iPod in a portable waist pack. It is an enjoyable therapy and an effective complement to OT. Also, for ease and convenience to our families who may not be able to attend clinic sessions 3 times per week, we offer listening therapy home programs.
